The Daily Mail of Friday 8th February 1952 reported that the now Queen Elizabeth II returned to Clarence House at 17.10 yesterday, Thursday 7th February, and immediately approved arrangements for the King’s funeral. Just over two hours later the following was issued by the Earl Marshal, the Duke of Norfolk:
‘The Earl Marshal announces that the Queen has approved that the funeral of his late Majesty will take place at St, George’s Chapel, Windsor, on Friday February 15,
The royal coffin will be brought to London by train from Sandringham on Monday, February 11, and be taken to Westminster Hall for the lying-in-state.
Westminster Hall will be open for the public on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
On Friday morning there will be a state funeral procession from Westminster Hall to Paddington Station, from where the royal coffin will be taken to Windsor.’
